It’s safe to say Liverpool seem to have a new lease of life under manager Jurgen Klopp and right now, everything is going extremely well for the Reds.
They’ve endured a huge home tie against Manchester United on Monday, one that bored the masses no end.
Their supporters in the Tavern seem pretty confident and who could blame them, they’ve had a couple of really good wins over Hull City and Swansea in recent weeks.
But it’s not really been a shock to see them playing well at all- we’ve known for a long-time they’re a group with plenty of potential.
Over the years we have seen some shocks from the Reds though, normally relating to some sort of signing. There have been some absolutely fantastic ones, some tragic ones and at times, some outright bizarre ones as well.
So with that in mind, we want to take you through the THREE biggest shock Liverpool signings of all time. Do you agree?
Fernando Morientes
There’s nothing supporters love more than a player that comes with a strong reputation for banging goals in the back of the net.
And it was that sort of expectation that lay on the shoulders of Fernando Morientes when he arrived from Real Madrid back in 2005.
They paid only £6million for the striker, who had scored close to 100 goals for the Spanish giants.
Still, as so many do, he turned out to be absolutely appalling.
18 months, 60 appearances and just 12 goals later he was sent on his way. Didn’t live up to expectations in the slightest.
Mario Balotelli
A slightly more modern-day shocker, Mario Balotelli’s move to Anfield back in 2014 sent shockwaves through the footballing world.
He was a man that carried so much talent, so much promise but unfortunately, so much controversy.
His time at Liverpool was plagued with it and after a while, it became pretty clear that he was never going to make the cut if he wasn’t going to work to perform.
Somewhat of a novelty, rather than a player people take seriously.
Alberto Aquilani
Alberto Aquilani was given his big break 2009 when he joined the Reds for around £17million and he took the number 4 shirt following Sami Hypia’s departure.
It was a big shirt number to fill following the centre-half’s absolutely fantastic spell at the club but unfortunately for Aquilani, his spell was a complete and utter shambles.
Not only that, but Xabi Alonso’s seismic departure left even bigger shoes to fill.
When Rafa Benitez left and Roy Hodgson came in, things only got worse and he left two years later for less than £1million. Ouch.
