Arsenal might not be very good at 11-a side, but surely they would be able to challenge in a 5-a-side league?
Arsenal fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are frustrated with Arsene Wenger’s lack of business in the transfer window this summer, and his lack of movement means that Arsenal’s squad depth is nearly non-existent for the coming season.
That being said, Arsenal have some top individuals, and our Landlord reckons they could definitely challenge if we put together a 5-a-side league here in the Tavern. Especially with one or two additions…
With that, this is Arsenal’s DREAM 5-a-side team, including long-term target Alexandre Lacazette……
GK – Petr Cech
Petr Cech might not have the pace that he had whilst at Chelsea, but you can bet that he would still do a job in a five-a side team.
His technical ability with his feet would be a particular asset, able to spray balls forward to the talented attackers that make up the rest of this team.
CB – Laurent Koscielny
Of all the defenders in the Arsenal squad, Laurent Koscielny would no doubt be the stand-out star for a 5-a side team.
His pace and strength would prevent even the best attackers from getting a chance, and his offensive threat would add a further attacking edge to a side that is already strong in that area.
CM – Alexis Sanchez
The first member of a very attacking midfield, it was particularly close between Alexis Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey for this slot.
Sanchez’s goalscoring ability and long-shot proficiency is what set him apart from his Welsh team mate however, with the experienced winger always a threat going forward.
CM – Mesut Ozil
He is then contrasted with the technical ability of Mesut Ozil, able to spray balls forward and pinpoint shots into the bottom corner of the net.
The size of the pitch would benefit the midfielder, who is not the biggest fan of running around a full side pitch. He could well be the star man of this team.
FWD – Alexandre Lacazette
The potential new boy upfront.
Alexandre Lacazette has been an Arsenal target for the entirety of the summer, and he showed Arsenal what they were missing with a hat-rick on the opening day of the Ligue-1 season.
Pace, technical ability and a proficient shot; he would be perfect as a 5-a-side number 9.
