They’re the heartbeat of any circle of friends in England and here at The Football Transfer Tavern, we’ve got plenty of cracking pub sides’ ready and waiting to unleash their potential on the world.
But one team that definitely would have a decent team is Manchester City, who boast some of the best players in the world. Whether it’s Guardiola leading from the sidelines, Vincent Kompany championing the side from the back or Sergio Aguero banging in the goals upfront – they’ve got some fantastic individual talent.
Pep Guardiola’s summer signings have strengthened matters at the Etihad and there is a gentle hum of optimism circulating amongst the Manchester faithful here at the Tavern.
But we want to strip things back and take a look at City’s dream 5-a-side side, including new-signing John Stones…
GK – Willy Caballero
With Joe Hart reportedly on the way out – Willy Caballero is set to be City’s first choice keeper for the foreseeable future, unless City bring in someone new.
Guardiola fancies him for his proficiency with the ball at his feet – a trait that transfers well over to the 5-a side variant of the game.
For all of Joe Hart’s qualities – technical prowess and distribution are not his strong suits, 5-a side might not be for him
CB – Vincent Kompany
Vincent Kompany is a hero amongst the Manchester City faithful here in the Football Transfer Tavern – and it is easy to see why.
Tactically efficient, a boss at the back and with the ability to cut out any danger, he’s our captain, he’s our leader and he’s our legend.
He’ll have to run less in a 5-a side team; so maybe he’ll stay injury free!
CM – John Stones
This is controversial, we know.
But in five-a-side, we think new signing John Stones is more than good enough to operate in the middle of the park, transitioning between defence and attack.
He’s pretty good with the ball at his feet and loves a good pass forward – being thrown-in at the deep end might suit the former Everton man.
CM – Kevin De Bruyne
KDB is the heatbeat of this side and we’re counting on the Belgian to do the job in the middle of the park for our side.
He can spray the ball around and work with the more defensively-minded John Stones to ensure everything stays tight. A definite game changer and a fantasy football favourite here at the Football Transfer Tavern.
ST – Sergio Aguero
The easiest pick in this side is Sergio Aguero; and our landlord reckons he would get into any team in the world right now.
He’s a goalscorer, a poacher and a hard-worker and he’s perfect for this team in every way possible.
Expect him to pull defences apart with ease on the smaller pitch and earn a call-up to the five-a-side world cup side.
