Currently standing tall at the top of the Premier League, things have been going well at Old Trafford. Jose Mourinho’s side has finally reached the levels that many in the pub have been expecting for a while now, but that could all change over the next few weeks.
Between now and the end of September, Man Utd have a whopping six games, and so a poor run of form could turn things on their head. Amongst those games, difficult Premier League ties against Southampton and Everton take place – whilst they will also continue their Champions League campaign. That’s an awful lot of competition to be taking on, and they can’t afford to take any of the fixtures for granted.
Jose Mourinho will have to use all of his technical know-how and squad management ability, as Man Utd’s squad is going to be tested to its limits. Fortunately, Jose Mourinho has a big team to choose from, but that won’t make his job that much easier.
What’s more, Paul Pogba limped off the pitch in the Champions League with an injury, and so the club could have to do without their midfield star for the next few weeks. That, in of itself, is going to make life very difficult. The spell could define Man Utd’s season in that if they can cope without one of their most important players, they could well be the real deal. If they don’t, though, it could be evidence that Man Utd don’t have what it takes to succeed at the top.
It’s also important to note that Man Utd’s 100% record in the Premier League has come to an end, with Stoke City holding the Red Devils to a 2-2 draw last weekend. That’s not to take anything away from their start, but the draw has certainly halted their lighting fast momentum, and they need to make sure that they can bounce back against Everton.
At present, things are looking very good, but the next few weeks will be massive for Man Utd.
