Stoke City supporters in the Transfer Tavern are delighted that their club has secured the signing of Kevin Wimmer from Tottenham Hotspur.
Mark Hughes has been especially active in the transfer window this summer, and the signature of Kevin Wimmer is the seventh addition that the Welshman has made to his team.
It is evident that the defence is an area of the team that Hughes has been keen to strengthen, Bruno Martins Indi and Kurt Zouma had already been acquired to enhance the quality and experience of their defence.
Now Kevin Wimmer is another arrival who will provide greater competition and depth in that area of the field.
The Austrian joined Spurs in 2015 from Koln, yet he failed to make a meaningful impression during his time in North London. The 24-year-old failed to establish himself as a regular in Pochettino’s team, and subsequently, he’s departed for pastures new.
Indeed, his arrival will provide the Potters with greater technical ability in defence. Wimmer is a player who is comfortable with the ball at his feet and is willing to dribble with the ball and also play long-balls into his teammates.
Stoke City are no doubt a team that will be pushing for a top ten finish in the Premier League, but will struggle to really push for a top six spot, with the Potters 1000/1 to win the Premier League title.
But with Wimmer and Zouma alongside each other in defence, the club have a strong chance of really pushing for the top half, and defying the odds set upon the club.
Stoke face Manchester United at home on Saturday, and will no doubt be the underdogs with the bookmakers in this fixture, with Jose Mourinho’s Red Devils on fire so far this season.
Most bookmakers aren’t giving the Potters a chance and are pricing the team around the 6/1 mark to secure a victory, but we’ve seen them beat a top six team already in the form of Arsenal, so anything can happen.

From a defensive perspective, his concentration is unwavering, and he’s a proficient blocker of the ball. Considering the Austria defender’s age, there is still considerable time for him to improve and become one of the best defenders in the league. At Stoke he has an opportunity to forge a legacy, to engrave his name in their folklore – it’s his responsibility to seize that chance.
