Those bloopers programmes that usually come on TV at Christmas time just wouldn’t be the same if we couldn’t getting the chance to ridicule some awful goalkeeping.
As much as we laugh when strikers somehow miss from two yards, a goalkeeper is there on his own so their mistakes are just as comical! And there have been some terrible errors down the years. Here’s a collection of five of the worst…
1. Massimo Taibi- the fact that he only played four matches for Manchester United says it all. They were all full of blunders but surely this one tops them all.

2. Peter Enckelman- I know what you’re thinking here…Birmingham vs Aston Villa. It seems that he has been mentally affected since the incident when he let the ball roll under his foot- only the small matter of a derby match at your biggest rivals home ground. Enckelman joined Blackburn, where he played three times in four years and was sold to Cardiff where his mistake resulted in the only goal being scored by Portsmouth in the FA Cup final of 2008.

3. Scott Carson- he regularly gets sent out on loan, comes back to the original club and then gets sold. He weren’t messing around either. Here’s what he said on ‘club hopping’: “I’ve been like a nomad for three or four years. It’ll be good to get some roots and hopefully settle.” Oh, and in case you’d forgotten…here’s how he helped England get dumped out of Euro 2008.

4. Roy Carroll- what is it with Sir Alex Ferguson and his mistakes with some of the goalies he has chosen? Carroll seemed to love letting in shots that would bounce in front of him and he would end up in some awkward crouching position. You reckon he’s paid off the officials from the game against Spurs?
