Footballers love playing for Celtic – there’s no denying that fact. But, on occasion, some anomalies slip through the net and cast their dreams outside of Glasgow.
Indeed, there’s no denying that the club’s allure is firmly based on a number of factors. Their fans, for example, are some of the best in the world – loyally following their team home and away, through wind, rain and snow. And there’s certainly no concern over their lack of success, either, as Celtic are almost guaranteed European football every year, winning the past seven Scottish Premier League titles.
However, sometimes all this isn’t good enough.
We’ve seen players move away from Celtic, over and over again, with loftier dreams of playing for top teams in Europe, essentially using their time in Scotland as a steppingstone for their career.
Others simply don’t make the cut.
With that in mind, here are two players that will likely be looking for a way out of Celtic next season…
Eboue Kouassi
Eboue Kouassi falls firmly into the “flop” category at Celtic following his move from Russian side Krasnodar in 2017.
Indeed, Kouassi’s time in the squad has been limited to only 226 minutes so far this season, and his most recent injury looks to have signed him off for the majority of 2019.
There’s really very little that can be said of his quality – or lack of – other than the fact that he’s failed to live up to the standards set by his fellow teammates.
The stark contrast between the rise of Olivier Ntcham and fall of Kouassi really does put things into perspective.
Dedryck Boyata
Boyata is one of the few stars yet to sign a new contract at Celtic, after Rogic, Christie, Ntcham and Tierney all recently signed to new long-term deals.
Celtic may be keen to cash in on the player who was reported by the Express to be attracting interest from abroad earlier this year. However, at this rate he looks set to run his contract down in 2019.
