Jordan Henderson is often heavily criticised, and it can be tough to understand why. As a player, he never gives less than 100%, and if Jurgen Klopp gives him a job to do, you can bet that he’ll pass the task with flying colours.
However, that said, it’s fair to say that his long-term role in the Liverpool team is somewhat uncertain.
The arrival of a few new faces, namely Fabinho and Naby Keita, have put extra pressure on Henderson to succeed, and so far, he’s done a pretty good job.
He’s held his own in the Liverpool midfield, and fans will be hoping that he continues to improve.
Henderson is a great player, but there is no doubting that he can get better. But what should he be working on?

More Numbers
One thing that has been problematic for Henderson has been the numbers that he’s been able to produce. Sure, he’ll always be solid, but he’s never a player to win a game with 2 assists and a goal.
For some players, that’s not an issue, like for N’Golo Kante at Chelsea for example, but for a midfield playmaker with an offensive mind? Not so much.
He’s yet to bag a single league goal or assist this season, and whilst he hasn’t had a bad campaign, it’s always hard to prove that a player is worth a spot if he isn’t going to deliver.
If he can add numbers to his game, he’ll be the perfect midfielder.
A Big European Night
Jordan Henderson is regularly a player that will give you a big performance. He’s one of Liverpool’s more consistent players, and if nothing else, you can never criticise his effort.
However, the Englishman also has a tendency to not exactly step up when it really matters. That’s not to say that he won’t play well, but he’ll rarely be the best man on the pitch on a big European night.
That’s something that Steven Gerrard regularly provided at Anfield, and so until Henderson does that, he’ll always fall well short of the Gerrard comparisons that inevitably take over whenever the pair are mentioned.
