Liverpool fans wetting their whistle in the Transfer Tavern have been looking to the future, wondering who’ll be the next big star to emerge from their academy – and whether he’ll earn Jurgen Klopp a fair few ale tokens in the transfer market. 

Liverpool boast one of the most illustrious academy set-ups in the Premier League, producing the likes of Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher, Michael Owen and Robbie Fowler to name a few.

But times have changed on Merseyside; whereas their academy products were once only interested in representing the Reds, the Anfield outfit now have to fend off interest in their youngsters from Europe’s elite clubs – the Real Madrids, Barcelonas and Bayern Munichs of this world.

With that in mind, Transfer Tavern have decided to take a look at two Liverpool youngsters who could be worth an outrageous amount of money in the near future, especially if transfer fees continue to inflate at the current, ridiculous rate!

Ben Woodburn

Already the youngest ever goalscorer in Liverpool’s prestigious history, Ben Woodburn’s well on course to becoming a striking superstar. The 17-year-old netted against Leeds in the EFL Cup quarter-final earlier this season to set the new record and although he’s yet to find his second for the Reds, he’s scored for Wales at U16, U17 and U19 level throughout a promising youth international career. Bearing in mind the premium placed on British players, especially in the Premier League, potential suitors could well find themselves forking out club-record fees to sign Woodburn once he matures into the top-class forward many expect.

Harry Wilson

Another record-breaker and another Welshman, Harry Wilson became the youngest ever player to represent the Dragons at senior level – and Liverpool’s youngest ever international – back in 2013. Admittedly, progress at Anfield has since been limited, waiting almost four years for his senior Reds debut which came in January this year. But the winger impressed on loan at Crewe in the first half of last season and seems to have an admirer in Jurgen Klopp, not to mention Wales boss Chris Coleman. Any more exposure to international football will undoubtedly lift Wilson’s price-tag, even if his opportunities at club level remain few and far between.
