Manchester United have had mixed fortunes this season, causing their fans in the Transfer Tavern to cheer and cry in equal measure.

In fact, United are 13 points adrift of leaders Chelsea, much further away than this time last year when they sat second in the league.

Big-money signings like Pogba and Mkhitaryan have flattered to deceive and more established stars like Rooney and Smalling have also failed to perform at their best.

Manager Jose Mourinho has experimented with his tactics and personnel this season in an effort to get United firing.

Our Landlord was shocked to see Mata become a regular fixture in the starting line-up, but this has proven a masterstroke by Mourinho.

Fans of the Red Devils will be hoping their manager can reclaim his Midas touch of old and return United to winning ways sooner rather than later.

Morgan Schneiderlin

The former Southampton star has had his appearances limited this season, appearing in only seven competitive games.

With Mourinho inviting Bastian Schweinsteiger back into the first-team fold, the competition for a spot in United’s midfield is hotting up.

However, Schneiderlin possesses the qualities that Mourinho likes in his players – physicality and technicality. The Frenchman regularly demonstrated these qualities in Southampton’s brilliant 2014/15 season, facilitating a transfer to Manchester in the summer.

With Pogba faltering in the middle of the park, and Rooney’s form only having recently improved since a sesh down the Transfer Tavern, there is currently a great chance for Schneiderlin to nail down a starting spot alongside Herrera.

Anthony Martial

Another Frenchman is my choice of player who must demand more minutes on the pitch, and his recent goals against West Ham in the League Cup quarter-final will have done his case no harm at all.

While Ibrahimovic has impressed since his summer transfer, without the big Swede United’s attacking play still looks as impotent and ponderous as it did under former manager Van Gaal.

Martial’s searing pace and quality in front of goal is exactly the type of incision that can help kickstart the Red Devils’ season.
