The summer transfer window looks to be a big one for Pep Guardiola and Manchester City and you can see why following a sub par season in the blue half of Manchester.

The optimism around Pep arriving at the Etihad Stadium that was apparent this time last year has definitely vanished and failure next season will surely see the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager under the microscope from City’s owners.

One thing that hasn’t helped Guardiola in his first year at the Etihad is the age of his players, particularly in the full back department which has led to murmurs in the Telegraph around the Transfer Tavern that City may go in for Spurs’ English full back, Kyle Walker. Our landlord believes this would be a sensational coup for City especially due to the fact that Spurs must be considered title rivals for next season and Walker moving to City would not only enhance the Citizens but also dent Spurs’ squad.

The resident City fans in the Tavern agree that Walker would be a great move for their club but they also note that it should be a sign of intention to make further moves in the transfer market. The current debate in the Tavern has seen the resident Citizens discuss which other players they’d like to see join Walker at City.

With that said, here are the two players they feel could also join their club…

Youri Tielemans

With Gabriel Jesus and Leroy Sane starring for City this season, Guardiola is tempted to blood more youth in to his squad and Anderlecht’s Youri Tielmans fits the bill perfectly.

A deal for Tielmans is even more likely with Yaya Toure’s future unclear and the need for more depth in the Citizens’ midfield being deemed one of the things Guardiola must improve in this summer window.

Of course, it should be noted that Tielmans is not quite the established player that can take City to new heights straight away but given time, the thought in the Tavern is that he could well become a City legend in the years to come and Sky Sports have an interest linked.

Ryan Bertrand

Whilst Guardiola eyes Walker to replace Pablo Zabaleta in the right back position, the thought in the Tavern and from ESPNFC is that Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand will be targeted to strengthen the left back position at Manchester City.

This story looks likely to come to fruition given the indifferent performances of the aging left backs, Gael Clichy and Aleksandr Kolarov in the Citizen’s squad and the City fans in the Tavern have been really impressed with Bertrand’s performances this season.

Our landlord has also been impressed and feels that the acquisition of the Saints’ left back will go along way to improving a City defence that needs a major overhaul.
