The Red Devils fans here in the Transfer Tavern pride themselves on some of the top players they’ve seen grace Old Trafford over the years.
Ryan Giggs, Eric Cantona, Paul Scholes, the list goes on and it’s always an interesting debate to hear who they think has been the most important in the history of the club.
What they’re less amiable to talk about is some of the less than impressive players that have walked through the doors over the years.
Your Massimo Taibi’s or Diego Forlan’s for example who simply left fans exasperated.
You’d think by now that the club have stamped out their policy for the occasional transfer clanger but even in the last five years there have been quite a few.
Our landlord revels in bringing up the less than satisfactory players to local punters as well, so with this in mind here are THREE of the most abysmal United signings in recent memory…
Falcao

When the Colombian signed for United on loan the initial reaction was one of genuine fear from the rest of the Premier League.
Somehow the Red Devils had gone under the radar to secure one of the most formidable forwards in Europe and it looked like a great deal.
Falcao however, flopped and simply didn’t look the player he once built his reputation on.
A shame for United fans but relief for everyone else.
Wilfried Zaha

Is this a bit harsh? Our landlord doesn’t think so.
Zaha was one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s last signings for United as a gift to his heir David Moyes but the winger just could not force his way into the new man’s plans.
He made very little impact for the club, and was soon back down the road to old club Crystal Palace leaving many to think of what could have been.
Andy Kellett

With all the best will in the world – who? Kellett was signed on loan by Louis van Gaal in one of his most baffling transfers during his time at the club.
The defender came from Bolton Wanderers, didn’t make an appearance and soon returned to his parent club.
It’s not his fault of course, any player would take the leap but what was Van Gaal really trying with this one?
