They’re at the top of the Premier League, doing well in Europe and in Pep Guardiola – they have one of the best managers in history at the helm of their club.
He’s playing good football, getting the best out of the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and if you’re a City fan – things really can’t be better right now.
But whilst everything is going well for the Sky Blues now, in the past – things have not been so bright.
Guardiola’s summer signings have helped City turn a corner, but some other managers have not been so lucky. In fact, some of their signings have been to the detriment of their team.
So with that in mind, we want to open the vault and have a look at some of the midfield maestro’s that turned out to be absolute shockers for Manchester City…

Robinho
Brazilian wide-man Robinho was one of the first marquee signings to come to the Etihad as a result of City’s new found wealth – but it’s safe to say he didn’t really justify his price tag.
15 goals from 43 appearances was not the best return for a so-called world-class player, and after two years of pretty underwhelming stuff, he found himself back in Brazil with Santos.
It’s a typical example of a player that just wasn’t suited to the tough-tackling style of the Premier League.
Scott Sinclair
Scott Sinclair’s three years spent at the Etihad aren’t going to memorable at all. He joined from Swansea City in 2012 when he was supposedly in the best form of his career.
But three years and just thirteen appearances later, he left for Aston Villa – which again didn’t prove to be the most fruitful move.
Some say he just wasn’t good enough, whilst some say he wasn’t given enough opportunities in the first team – but whichever way you look at it, he was an absolute flop in sky blue.
Shaun Wright-Phillips
Of course, we’re not talking about Shaun Wright-Phillips’s first spell at the club – but his second.
In August 2008 he was resigned at the Etihad and it’s safe to say his second spell at the club didn’t go as well as his first.
He started well but as soon as the likes of David Silva and Yaya Toure were signed towards the end of the 2011 season – he just wasn’t going to get into the side.
16 goals in nearly 100 appearances doesn’t really represent fantastic value for money and he’s a player that probably should have stayed away second-time around.
