As starts go, the Toffees had made a pretty decent one and Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern are feeling optimistic ahead of the new season!

After missing out on Moussa Sissoko, Ronald Koeman will have to make do with who he did bring in – the likes of Yannick Bolasie, Ashley Williams and Idrissa Gueye.

And they’ve made a good start – seven points from three games leaves them fourth in the table going into the international break.

They’ve had wins against West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City and picked up a pretty useful draw against Spurs in their season opener.

So after some pretty useful results, we want to see if anyone out of this current crop of Toffees players deserves more credit for their performances so far.

Everton have their very obvious match-winners in Lukaku and Bolasie, but who else deserves more kudos?

Here’s THREE stars who don’t quite pick up the headlines they might deserve…..

Idrissa Gueye

A very unassuming midfield player, Idrissa Gueye will play a massive part in this Everton squad going forward this season.

The former Aston Villa player was huge for his employers last season and you’d have worried how bad it could have been for Villa, if he wasn’t anchoring their midfield.

He’s robust, breaks up the play and is a general nightmare to play against.

Gareth Barry

Matchwinner against West Brom, former Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry is another player who, like Gueye, gets on with his game in the middle of the park and makes things difficult for opponents.

He’s probably one of the best passers in this Everton side, and his ability to switch the play and bring his colleagues into the game is massive for Ronald Koeman’s team.

Well liked because he’s unassuming and long may that continue, if it gets results.

Gerard Deulofeu

Spanish winger Deulofeu endured a tough campaign last time out, and will be looking to break back into the Everton side to help his team to the Champions League this season.

With Ross Barkley, Romelu Lukaku and Yannick Bolasie getting most of the headlines these days, it’s often proved difficult for the Spaniard to pick up the praise he sometimes so richly deserves.

He’s pacy, direct and skillful and there’s little doubt he can do well in the side this season.
