According to A Bola (via Goal), Man Utd are keen on Benfica attacker Goncalo Guedes as Jose Mourinho looks to continue his rebuild at Old Trafford.

However, with United currently amidst a poor run of form, our landlord thinks that Mourinho would be wise to invest in much more than a new winger.

He thinks that Mourinho should have a long list of potential targets ready for the new year, and the Man Utd fans in the Tavern are inclined to agree.

With that said, these FOUR players could follow Goncalo Guedes to Man Utd in January…

 Antonio Rudiger

Man Utd have struggled defensively recently, and whilst Eric Bailly has been stellar – he has recently been ruled out for several months with a knee injury.

Defeat to Chelsea at the weekend proved that players including Daley Blind and Chris Smalling are simply not up to par – and Jose Mourinho would be wise to look for an alternative in the new year.

Antonio Rudiger would represent exactly that.  He is a powerful, technical and stable centre-half, and at just 23-years-old – he could be the long-term solution that Mourinho craves.

 Alexander Isak

Aleskander Isak is young player that Man Utd have recently been linked with – and our landlord thinks that Mourinho could make a move in the new year.

He has already seen with Marcus Rashford how much of an impact young attackers can make in the Premier League – and Isak could follow the English forward.

He will have a fight on his hands to get hold of Isak – but he could well come in January.

 Fabinho

If Man Utd need versatile defensive depth – they should look no further than Fabinho.

The Monaco right-back turned midfielder has been in stellar form for Monaco this season – and our landlord is touting him for a big money move soon.

Whilst a natural right-back, he has impressed as a defensive midfielder this season – and his versatility could prove to be a real asset for Jose Mourinho.

 Jose Fonte

Jose Mourinho might be on the lookout for a bit of experience at the back – and Jose Fonte would tick that box for the Portuguese boss.

He has been with Southampton for years, and he was touted with a move away in the summer by the punters in the Football Transfer Tavern – and January could be the time in which it finally happens.

He isn’t a particularly spectacular defender, but he will do a job – and he would help add a bit of to United’s faltering defence.
