Newcastle fans drinking at the Tavern today are breathing a sigh of relief, as new signings are finally making their way to the club.
It has been confirmed this week that Rafa Benitez has completed the signing of French defender, Florian Lejeune with long-term new deals for two more defenders, Jamaal Lascelles and Paul Dummett to be finalised later this week.
It has been quite a slow summer for Benitez, who is clearly hoping to get more deals done by the end of the summer window. The Magpies need squad depth, and they need to strengthen a couple of areas in the first-team if they are going to remain a Premier League side come the end of the season.
Whilst Newcastle don’t have the budget that a lot of Premier League sides have, they do have a manager that can draw in players and with that being said, here are TWO deals Benitez should sort out as soon as possible.
Adrian Semper

You’re forgiven if you haven’t heard of Adrian Semper before.
The Croatian shot stopper currently plays in his homeland for Dinamo Zagreb and managed ten clean sheets in 22 performances last season, not bad for a fresh-faced 19-year-old.
He’s even played some Champions League football, granted he conceded seven goals in two games but they were against Lyon and eventual finalists, Juventus.
A work in progress, but since Benitez has already spoken of the importance of a good ‘keeper, Semper would be a cheap alternative to many other keepers his age and someday, could be something special.
Ryan Shawcross

The Stoke City has been linked with a move away from the club and, whilst he may have his sights set on moving up the table, a move to Newcastle wouldn’t be the worst thing for the 29-year-old.
Benitez has some long-term plans for Newcastle, otherwise he would have left when the ship started sinking into the Championship.
Newcastle need Premier League experience within their ranks and Shawcross has lined up 290 times in England’s top flight, that’s plenty of experience. With Lejeune already joining, Shawcross would cap off a strong defence with plenty of depth.
