These Arsenal fans slated Danny Welbeck for his performance against Blackpool

Arsenal welcomed Blackpool to the Emirates Stadium this evening for a fixture which appeared straightforward on paper but in reality was anything but.

As predicted, Unai Emery fielded a weakened starting line-up for the Carabao Cup tie, with the likes of Julio Pleguezuelo, Emile Smith-Rowe and Ainsley Maitland-Niles all handed starting berths.

There was also a place in the starting eleven for Danny Welbeck at the spearhead of the attack, but he struggled to make an impression against League One opposition.

Despite having a wealth of experience at the top level and 42 England caps to his name, Welbeck failed to showcase his class and he was eventually substituted in the 76th minute with his side leading 2-1.

The Gunners managed to hold on to their slender advantage in the closing stages, despite playing a third of the game with ten men following Matteo Guendouzi’s red card, but that did not prevent the Arsenal supporters from fuming at Welbeck for his lacklustre performance.

And if the reaction is anything to go by, it could be some time before Welbeck is restored to the starting line-up for a Premier League fixture.
