Arsenal fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern could hardly believe their eyes when they opened their morning papers this morning and saw two names listed right next to their club; Greizmann and Lewandowski.
Reports have linked Arsenal with a move for the pair intermittently all summer, but over the last few days, as the Premier League draws closer and Arsene Wenger begins to fear the season ahead – it looks like he is desperate to bring in some world class firepower before the summer is out.
Arsenal’s strike force is definitely a weak spot of the Arsenal first team, especially with the arrival of Granit Xhaka who has sured up the Arsenal midfield, and if they were to reinforce that area they would be a force to be reckoned with
In fact, if Arsenal are able to capture both Greizmann and Lewandowski – they might just prove unstoppable next season.
With that, here is Arsenal’s DREAM 16/17 XI including both Antoine Greizmann and Robert Lewandowski
GK – Petr Cech
No surprises here.
Since joining the gunners, Petr Cech has been his usual consistent self.
Despite his age, now 34 years old, Cech is still one of the best in the world between the sticks; and Arsenal should have no concerns about any instability in goal.
LB – Nacho Monreal
Like Petr Cech, Nacho Montreal proved himself to be a reliable part of the Arsenal defence last season, giving Arsenal stability on that side that really they have lacked since the departure of Ashley Cole.
He is never below a 7/10, and whilst he is rarely spectacular, he does an impressive job of curbing threats down the right hand side.
He has become quite the cult hero here in the Football Transfer Tavern, and Arsenal fans will be hoping that he continues his fine form next season.
CB – Laurent Koscielny
A fan favourite amongst the Arsenal faithful here in the Tavern, Laurent Koscielny has proven himself to be one of the best central defenders in England over the last few years.
Pacey, technically decent and reliable; he has everything that it takes to be a strong defender.
He has suffered with injuries in recent years, but if he can shake them off over the next season there will be nobody better in the Premier League
CB – Shkodran Mustafi
If reports in the press are to be believed, it is only a matter of time before Shkodran Mustafi joins Arsenal, much to the joy of the Arsenal faithful here in the Tavern.
Arsenal’s defensive injury crisis could turn out to be a blessing in disguise, with Mustafi revered in both Germany and Spain as one of the top central defenders in the country, and he will no doubt continue his fine form as he moves to England.
Strong and powerful in defence; a great signing and an excellent central defender.
RB – Hector Bellerin
Hector Bellerin was Arsenal’s stand out young player last season, and it is easy to see why.
Electric pace, offensively threatening and stable in defence; he is the complete package.
Holding onto Bellerin this summer is the best piece of business that Arsenal could have done.
CM – Granit Xhaka
Granit Xhaka has already proven himself a hit amongst the Arsenal faithful here in the Tavern, and with his commanding presence in midfield it is easy to see why.
The towering midfielder brings calmness and composure to the Arsenal midfield; something that they have dearly lacked in recent years – and he will really transform the side going forward.
He could be the difference between a 4th placed finish and a title challenge.
CM – Aaron Ramsey
Aaron Ramsey’s has had somewhat of a coming of age in recent years, turning from a relatively average player into one of the best midfielder’s in England.
Strong offensively, solid defensively and a frequent goalscorer; he really is the complete package.
LAM – Antoine Griezmann
The prolific French forward’s link with Arsenal refuses to go away, and Arsenal fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern could not be more excited.
Offering electric pace going forward and an unbelievable goalscoring record, there is not a team in the world where he wouldn’t be a starter.
A natural striker, Griezmann would be equally as effective cutting in from the left hand side of the attack in a pacey, threatening Arsenal attack.
If Arsenal can capture him he would be an absolute coup.
CAM – Mesut Ozil
Mesut Ozil is a hero amongst the Arsenal fans here in the Tavern, and it is easy to see why.
On his day there is nobody better, and Arsenal must ensure that they tie him down to a long term contract as soon as they can.
He can find a pass out of nowhere; and he can be the difference between a good side and a great side.
RAM – Alexis Sanchez
Similarly to Mesut Ozil, Arsenal really need to tie Alexis Sanchez down to a long term contract – he is simply too good to let go at any price.
He has been on fire since joining the club, and without him Arsenal may well have found themselves failing to break teams down on a weekly basis – he really is that good.
The Ozil & Sanchez partnership is a thing of legend here in the Football Transfer Tavern, and Arsenal fans will be hoping that it continues for another few years yet.
ST – Robert Lewandowski
The prolific Polish front man currently plys his trade for Bayern Munich, and if Arsenal can prize him away from the German giants it would be quite the coup.
Arsene Wenger is reportedly desperate to sign a big money striker, and Lewandowski could be his man.
In front of goal, he may well be the most prolific striker in the world; and like Greizmann, he will be the difference between a 4th place finish and a title challenge.
Arsenal have been crying out for alternatives at the tip of their attack; and Robert Lewandowski would provide just that.
