‘This must be a wind up’ - Everton fans react as 43-year-old wants managerial role

Everton supporters have been drowning their sorrows in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing the Toffees lose 5-2 at home to Arsenal on Sunday, a result which plunged the Merseyside outfit into the Premier League’s bottom three, and brought about the end of manager Ronald Koeman.

The Goodison Park tenants went into their clash with Arsene Wenger’s side having won just two of their opening eight league matches, but made a fine start on Sunday thanks to Wayne Rooney’s fourth goal of the campaign. However, that seemed to rile the visitors as unanswered strikes from Nacho Monreal, Mesut Ozil, Alexandre Lacazette, and Aaron Ramsey gave the North London giants a 4-1 lead, and although Oumar Niasse got one back for the Toffees, Alexis Sanchez had the final say by bagging a fine fifth in the final minute.

And that defeat seriously frustrated our resident Evertonians in the Tavern, and it ultimately brought about the end of boss Koeman, who was relieved of his duties on Monday after a woeful start to the campaign.

And attentions are turning to who could replace the Dutchman at Goodison Park, and one man who has reportedly thrown his hat into the ring is Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs.

The Welshman has been out of the game since ending his stint as assistant manager at Old Trafford back in 2016, and has often been linked with a managerial role in a bid to get his career in management going following a short time as the Red Devils’ interim boss back in 2014.

And the 43-year-old has confirmed his interest in taking over at Goodison Park, which is news that has stimulated quite a response from Everton supporters on Twitter.

And it’s fair to say that many aren’t overly convinced by the Welshman becoming their club’s new manager…
