Rumours may be flying here in the Football Transfer Tavern but fans are fully aware that the IBTimes linking Liverpool to not one but three defenders may well have more truth than most to it.
The club are desperately looking for a replacement for at least one of their central defenders this season with long standing legend Jamie Carragher set to leave the club and retire and question marks over at least one other defender’s future believed to be Martin Skrtel’s.
Having been heavily linked to Brendan Rodgers’ former player at Swansea City in Ashley Williams, the club are formulating a contingency plan should Williams either chose to stay with the Swans or make a move to another club that is considering buying him – most notably Arsenal.
Now it seems Northern Irishman Rodgers is seriously considering a move for Real Madrid centre back Raul Albiol who has slipped further and further down the pecking order during his time at Real Madrid who now have Sergio Ramos, Pepe and Raphael Varane all in front of him, with even Ricardo Carvalho often preferred to the veteran defender. The club are also considering a move for young Toulouse centre half and Tunisian international Aymen Abdennour who would only cost in the region of £5 million.
