You’ll often find the Tottenham Hotspur fans and Arsenal supporting punters in the Transfer Tavern taking swipes at each other’s clubs as they argue about who rules north London.

With both sides competing towards the summit of the Premier League these days, it’s little surprise to hear both sets of fans loudly explaining how their side do things better than their bitter rivals. Still, reports emanating out of Italy recently have drawn the two together.

According to Calcio Mercato, both the Gunners and Spurs have run the rule over Massimiliano Allegri at Juventus as potential replacements for Arsene Wenger and Mauricio Pochettino respectively. The former is, of course, out of contract at the Emirates in just a few months, while the report claims the latter is of interest to Barcelona should Luis Enrique leave the Camp Nou.

If such a story is to be believed, the 49-year-old Italian would have the enviable pick of employers in the Big Smoke. With that in mind, here are THREE reasons Spurs simply need to ensure they land Allegri should Pochettino depart.

Stepping out the shadow

Allegri sure had big boots to fill in Turin when he initially took over from Antonio Conte, who had won three Serie A titles for the club. He may not have entirely convinced when handed the role, after leaving AC Milan under a cloud, though made some subtle changes to a winning side and somehow made them even better.

With Pochettino’s imprint on Hotspur Way being so deep-rooted, the Italian’s relaxed approach to taking over a side already set in their ways would be a wise move.

Versatility

Over in Italy, the former AC Milan chief has largely been lauded for his versatility with I Bianconeri, utilising a number of different systems with what he has available to him. As we’ve seen with Spurs this term, being able to call on various different systems has really given them an extra gear.

Dealing with losing players

Clearly, Juve boast a recent dominance over Italian football Spurs will probably never have over the English game. However, considering the Serie A side’s standing in Europe as a whole, Allegri has had to deal with losing his star players over the years.

The likes of Alvaro Morata, Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal have all departed for either bigger clubs or bigger money and having experience in replacing huge talents with clever signings and systems could stand him in good stead on Hotspur Way.
