According to The Sun, via The Star, Blackburn Rovers are interested in signing Southampton's Sam Gallagher on loan.

The 23-year-old striker is yet to feature for The Saints in the Premier League this season, given the club's wealth of players in the position. With Charlie Austin, Danny Ings, Shane Long and Manolo Gabbiadini already at St Mary's, playing time is at a premium this season.

The Saints may be interested in letting the 6ft 4 forward leave, in order to gain some playing time, and there would be no better place to go to than the club that he spent the 2016/17 season at. He had a decent spell at Ewood Park, scoring 11 goals in 43 games in what was a troubling season for the club.

While Danny Graham has looked sharp for Rovers this season, at 33 years of age, they may want cover for him in what is a long season. Adam Armstrong has been serviceable so far this season, but the addition of Gallagher may give the club just that extra bit on firepower.

However, the downside to this deal could mean that the club are preparing for the possible departure of forward Bradley Dack. It has long been speculated that the 24-year-old may be leaving the club in the near future, and while Gallagher is not a like-for-like replacement, this may be a case of the club bolstering their attack.

Nonetheless, regardless of the club's reasoning behind making this signing, it could be one that sees them work their way up the Championship table.
