The Newcastle fans are in the Tavern tonight and they seem happy Rafa Benitez is finally getting some new faces in at the club.

Next season is absolutely crucial for the long-term success of Newcastle United.

Should they get relegated, it is likely Rafa Benitez will either get fired or look for a way out of the club and they could struggle in the Championship for years to come.

If they have a good season, Benitez will surely stay and try and help the Tyneside club climb back up the ladder of English football.

Compared to most other clubs, Newcastle have had a relatively quiet transfer window with only a handful of new faces making their way to St. James’ Park so far.

Right now, a club like Newcastle can’t really afford to get rid of many players as every little can help when fighting the relegation dog fight, but there are a few exceptions to the rule.

There are a few players on the books at Newcastle who wouldn’t be able to contribute much going into their new Premier League era.

For that reason, Benitez should look to move those players on before they become a real issue for the side.

Bad performances from individuals can quickly turn into bad performances from the whole team and Rafa will not want that to happen.

With that being said, here are two Newcastle players who could potentially hold the side back next season.

Aleksandar Mitrovic

Our landlord has said it before and he is saying it again, Aleksandar Mitrovic just isn’t very good.

An ok Championship player, Mitrovic isn’t suited for life in the Premier League at this stage of his career.

Reports have come out recently that Lyon are interested in his services so Benitez should make it clear to the Serbian forward that he is surplus to requirements at the club.

Curtis Good

Injuries have plagued what was once a promising young career for Australian Curtis Good.

Signing from Melbourne Hearts (now Melbourne City) back in 2012, a series of long term injuries have meant Good has never got a proper run out in the first team for the Magpies.

Rumours began circulating a few months ago that Melbourne City would be interested in taking him back, but since then that has all died down.

Not necessarily holding the club back on the pitch, but financially it doesn’t make sense to keep paying a players wage’s who they’re too scared to play because of his injuries.
