Everton: Fans laud Jamie Carragher

Jamie Carragher might be a Liverpool legend, but he started out life as an Everton fan.

The now-retired 42-year-old spent 17 years as a professional at Anfield, making no less than 737 appearances for the Reds. He also helped the side to a whole host of trophies, including the 2005 Champions League and three League Cups.

However, he grew up as an Evertonian but he would still have been supporting Liverpool in the first Merseyside derby of the season on Saturday, which ended 2-2. A sharing of the points keeps Everton on top of the table, but the big talking point was Jordan Pickford’s tackle on Virgil van Dijk. The latter was forced off and could be out for a while, but the England goalkeeper escaped without even as much as a yellow card.

On Sky Sports on Sunday, Graeme Souness and Carragher were discussing the incident. The former was particularly critical off the tackle, but Carragher leapt to the defence of Pickford, and even called out the former Reds boss for the tackles he made during his own playing career.

As you can imagine, this went down well with the Toffees supporters, and they took to Twitter to share their thoughts.
