Former Aston Villa striker Tony Cascarino has supported current captain Jack Grealish after he was called ‘overrated’.
Grealish is a boyhood fan of the club and has been their key player this season as they fight for Premier League safety. The creative midfielder has contributed to 38% of the clubs goals, per Sofascore, as he has scored seven and assisted six of their 34 goals.
Cascarino responded to criticisms about Grealish when it was suggested on talkSPORT that he may be ‘overrated’, (via Birmingham Mail) as he said, “Just on watching Grealish over a number of seasons. Every level he has got to, he has jumped up and performed.
“He has found the difficulties of being a player because when you go from being a Championship player to a Premier League player, he has found it easy. His weight of pass is as good as anybody I have ever seen.”
It is hard to disagree here, as without his creativity (he averages the most key passes per game in the squad, via Whoscored with 2.7) and his goal contributions, Villa would surely be further from safety than they currently are.
Grealish has received many plaudits for his performances this season after largely leading the attacking charge for his boyhood club amid reported transfer interest from the likes of Manchester United, so Cascarino is right in his assessment here.
