Tottenham Hotspur are lining up a move for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the summer, according to Alasdair Gold via @RickSpur.
Spurs have been linked with the Southampton midfielder for a number of months and Jose Mourinho recently identified Hojbjerg as one of his top targets in the upcoming transfer window.
Ricky Sacks shared the news on social media, tweeting: “Tottenham Hotspur are weighing up a transfer for Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. Hojbjerg has got four years of Premier League experience, plays in defensive midfield role and has got leadership capabilities which would attract Spurs.”
Writing for football.london, Gold commented: “Tottenham looked at bringing him in during the January transfer window but the deal was not a workable one then but they are likely to revisit it when the next window comes along.
“How Kyle Walker-Peters settles in at Southampton and how much of a part he plays for them when football resumes will also be a factor as Tottenham will be able to use him as part of any potential deal for the Saints captain.”
He added: “Hojbjerg himself has admitted in recent days that he wants to move on to a higher level now and that Southampton are aware of that and playing for Mourinho will appeal to him and for a club like Tottenham with their history of successful Danes.”
He arrived at St Mary’s Stadium from Bayern Munich for £13.7m in 2016 and has played in 28 games for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side this season, creating one assist, making 2.4 tackles per game, averaging 1.5 interceptions and completing 1.7 clearances in the Premier League (WhoScored).
His current market value is estimated at £10.8m via Transfermarkt and it remains to be seen if Daniel Levy will make an offer for the Danish international in the weeks ahead.
As expected, many Spurs fans drooled over Gold’s “class” update on Hojbjerg, with one supporter dubbing him a “leader” and another adding that a move for him would be a “no brainer.”

On a bosman, it’s a no brainier. Sell on if no good. Don’t know why we don’t do more free signings

Yes that’s the type of player we need

I'd personally love him. I think he'd be a Palacios signing. Underwhelming for many but class. Prem League experience and captain experience is ideal. Isn't he in the last year of his contract too?

Hojbjerg is a far better prospect at DM – comes from Bayern academy. More importantly a leader, who is already a club captain in PL
