Tottenham fans loved Lamela’s cameo against Liverpool

Yesterday was a tough day for all associated with Tottenham Hotspur. It would be a compliment to call the performance lacklustre and at times it could have been a cricket score with Liverpool piling in with attack after attack on Michel Vorm’s goal. However, if there was one impressive performer for Mauricio Pochettino’s side it was Erik Lamela.

Cabeza arriba y a seguir trabajando… es solo el comienzo, yo creo en este equipo!

Heads held high and keep on working hard… this is just the beginning, I believe in this team! #COYS pic.twitter.com/s4tWoToF6z

Erik Lamela came off the bench yesterday to replace Mousa Dembele around the hour mark and it was a substitution that should have happened at half-time. Whilst Lamela wasn’t able to improve his side’s defending, with a number of shocking passes around the defence which left them vulnerable time after time, on the odd occasions that Spurs got the ball out of their own half it was Lamela who looked the brightest.

Bar Lucas Moura’s effort which hit the post just before Roberto Firmino’s goal, Lamela was the only figure in white who managed to threaten the Liverpool goal and when he found the net from a tight angle in the dying minutes it gave the Lilywhites a lifeline, albeit a slim one. Pochettino will be having some real selection headaches ahead of Inter Milan on Tuesday but Lamela might just have played his way into the team, especially seeing as Dele Alli is likely to still be out.

You can read the Spurs fans’ verdict on Lamela here:

You made a massive difference when you came on the field Erik, honestly believe that if you would have started the game we would have probably got something out of it.

Your ability is seriously not given the credit it deserves, and you will have a huge part to play this season.

You were great when you came on, Erik and that was a fantastic finish. Keep up the hard work. #COYS

The fans are loving Lamela so far this season and they’ll be keen to see more from him on Tuesday.
