Since he signed for the club back in summer 2012, Jan Vertonghen has been an absolute star at both White Hart Lane and Wembley. The Belgian defender has missed the last couple of months of football but now he looks set to face Inter Milan tonight and Arsenal on the weekend, with his timing absolutely impeccable.

It looks like the 31-year-old defender has been pushing to be back in the first-team for a long time now. Mauricio Pochettino has claimed that Vertonghen has been working hard to be back for the last three or four weeks and as that’s the case he should be able to come back in with an immediate impact against Inter as The Lilywhites aim to get revenge from the 2-1 loss they suffered on their opening game in the Champions League this season.
It also helps that with Vertonghen back Pochettino can give a break to Toby Alderweireld at some point. Tonight will see the Belgian duo start as Juan Foyth hasn’t been included in the club’s Champions League squad. However, on Sunday when the North London Derby comes around, Vertonghen and Foyth could be the two trusted to keep Unai Emery’s Arsenal side out at the back as the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli go to work at the other end.
