Last night, in the EFL Trophy, Sol Campbell took charge of Macclesfield Town for the first time. Coincidentally, the Silkmen also lost their first ever penalty shoot-out in their 144-year history on the same evening, and a lot of Tottenham fans were in stitches at the news of the ex-Arsenal man’s failings.

Sol Campbell is an infamous figure in North London, hated by the white half and loved by the red half, the former England man made history when, as the captain at White Hart Lane, he ran down his contract and left for Arsenal on a free transfer. The move sent shockwaves through the Premier League, and even now, seven years after his retirement and 17 years since he made that move, the Lilywhites still hate him with a burning passion.
Most Tottenham fans loved seeing that the ex-England man had been appointed as the Macclesfield Town boss as the club sit dead botton, ranked 92nd out of the 92 football league clubs, and toying with dropping out of League Two. They’ll all be hoping that last night’s penalty shootout loss to Newcastle United’s U21s is just the first of many failings and they’ll be even happier if Campbell is either fired or relegated come to the end of the season.
