Ajax are in the process of trying to seal a deal that would see Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen return to the club, that is according to a report from The Telegraph.

The Belgian has just six months left on his contract at Spurs, meaning he can now talk to clubs in Europe and sign a pre-contract ahead of a free transfer at the end of the season.
As it stands the north London club haven’t offered Vertonghen a new deal, so a return to the Eredivisie could well be on the cards although according to the report Napoli are also interested in the 32-year-old.
And the Serie A side are also reportedly keen to do a deal in January rather than waiting to get him for nothing in the summer, which could be of more interest to Tottenham.
It seems that a lot of Spurs fans would happily let the Belgium international move on to either Ajax or Napoli, with many suggesting that his best years are now behind him.
