It was a disappointing result for Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup on Sunday, as they drew their third round tie against Championship outfit Middlesbrough 1-1.

Jose Mourinho fielded a very strong line-up at the Riverside (BBC Sport) but they struggled against their second-tier opponents, with Lucas Moura’s goal ensuring a replay after Ashley Fletcher had opened the scoring.
Plenty of Spurs players were off-colour in Teeside given the result, but one who came in for specific criticism on social media was centre-back Jan Vertonghen.
Indeed the Belgian wasn’t at his best as he lost possession 19 times in the game, whilst also making one error which led to a shot and having a low pass completion percentage of just 78% (SofaScore).
He is out of contract at the end of the season (Transfermarkt) and performances like this seemingly do little to suggest to fans that he’s worthy of a new one.
Plenty of Tottenham fans were not happy with his display against Middlesbrough and were very critical of him on Twitter.

Vertonghen was far worse than dier. Dele was invisible. Winks awful. I get you don’t like aurier and dier but there were far worse out there today. Not sure what lo celso did to get a 6 but would agree lamela was the only bright light
