TalkSPORT’s Laura Woods believes that Thomas Tuchel would be a solid appointment for Tottenham Hotspur.

The Lowdown: Spurs may soon need a new manager

While Antonio Conte is set to return to the dugout for Tottenham against Milan this evening, it may well be the beginning of the end for the Italian and his tenure with Spurs.

Reports have suggested that Conte is set to leave come the end of the season and has seemingly rejected approaches from the club for him to sign an extended deal beyond the current campaign.

It has also been reported by The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke that there is nothing to suggest that Conte will be Tottenham’s manager next season, so Daniel Levy should soon start working on who could replace the Italian.

The Latest: Tuchel could be the man for Tottenham

Despite having managed rivals Chelsea in the past, Woods has insisted on TalkSport that Tuchel could be exactly what Spurs need to turn their fortunes around next season.

She said: “I actually think Thomas Tuchel would be a great shout. I think managers that come back into the league, they’ve got something to prove and want to go back – a bit like Conte, funnily enough, I wonder what’s happened there?

“Seriously, though, I just think with Thomas Tuchel – in the small space of time that he came into Chelsea and arranged that team, that had already got top four from Frank Lampard, so had a lot of young talent, made a few changes, won the Champions League.

“I just think that kind of personality that he has to go into a team like Spurs, who just look like they are devoid of enjoyment at the moment and they’re lacking something. Go and get the best out of Son, go and put a rocket up them. I honestly think that would be a great fit.”

The Verdict: Would be a huge decision from both parties

While Tuchel’s connections with Chelsea may well raise eyebrows amongst some Spurs fans, it appears to be something that Levy has been attracted to as of late, with both Jose Mourinho and Conte also having managed both sides in the recent past, while Andre Villas-Boas and Glenn Hoddle also arrived with previous stints at Stamford Bridge, so that wouldn’t likely be an issue.

Tuchel was a fan favourite at Stamford Bridge after delivering them a rather unlikely Champions League against a star-studded Manchester City side, so the German boss could risk tarnishing any ties he has with them if he was to replace Conte.

Also, Tuchel, who has been hailed as ‘unbelievable‘, may well look at Spurs and see that Harry Kane will become a free agent in the summer after next, and if Conte can’t even get a tune out of this team, what chance does any other manager have of delivering silverware for Tottenham?
