Tottenham: Spurs ready to launch Jordan Pickford transfer

Tottenham: Spurs ready to launch Jordan Pickford transfer - Premier League News

Tottenham Hotspur are readying an approach for Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, according to a report.

The Lowdown: Spurs eyeing Pickford

Tottenham’s links to Pickford are nothing new, with it being reported during the January transfer window that he was being eyed for a potential summer swoop.

The goalkeeper committed his long-term future to Everton by signing a four-and-a-half-year contract at the end of last month, however it appears as though Spurs remain undeterred, and still view him as a possible replacement for 36-year-old Hugo Lloris.

The Latest: Number one target

According to a report from The Sun, the 29-year-old is still Tottenham’s number one target to replace the Frenchman, even in light of recently signing a new contract.

The report details that there is an agreement the shot-stopper will be sold if his current club are relegated from the Premier League, although the Toffees would still look to hold out for around £35m.

The Verdict: Get it done?

Given that the former Sunderland man is contracted until 2027, it appears as though he will only leave if Everton go down, which is looking increasingly unlikely since the arrival of manager Sean Dyche, with his side most recently defeating Brentford 1-0.

That said, if the 50-time England international does become available, he would be an excellent addition to the squad, being hailed as a ‘leader’ with ‘world class’ distribution by journalist Nick Emms.

Emms also highlights Pickford’s ability to perform on the ‘highest stage’, which he has done routinely with his national side, having picked up five clean sheets at Euro 2021, the most of any goalkeeper at the tournament.

As such, Spurs should continue to monitor his availability, and launch a bid this summer if he expresses a desire to leave Everton.
