Tottenham: Report names Spurs as only destination for Piero Hincapie - Premier League News

Tottenham have been named as the only potential destination for Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie as the club plot a major overhaul.

The Lowdown: Spurs linked…

The Ecuador international, who featured for his nation at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, has emerged as one of the Bundesliga’s most promising central defensive talents.

Hincapie is attracting attention from Spurs and manager Antonio Conte with reports suggesting that contact has even been made at various points.

The Premier League top-four chasers may have one mind on the summer transfer window with a centre-back thought to be at the very top of their priorities.

The Latest: Tottenham named as sole Hincapie destination…

As per Bild, a reliable German newspaper, Leverkusen are now plotting a major summer overhaul and Hincapie is one of the many players who could leave.

Listing the South American as among the candidates to depart, Bild name Spurs as the sole club when it comes to a potential landing spot for Hincapie.

Not much is added beyond that, but it appears the north Londoners are the main and only candidates for his services as things stand.

The Verdict: Major talent…

The 21-year-old comes with plenty of promise, even able to play both in central defence and in the full-back area.

A left-footed defender, Hincapie is a valuable commodity in the football world and Transfermarkt values him at a very reasonable £22 million.

The player has already won awards, clinching the Men’s Youth Best Player Award at the recent Conmebol Under-20 tournament.

Hincapie’s value, going by his recent performances, only looks set to increase – having also put in assured displays for his country at the World Cup. According to WhoScored, he averaged the joint-most tackles per 90 out of any Ecuadorian at the tournament – potentially making clubs take further notice.

Called ‘really impressive‘ by former Leverkusen head coach Gerardo Seoane, Hincapie should undoubtedly be a top target for Tottenham and Conte.
