Tottenham: Lilywhites eyeing 2023 move for Skriniar

Tottenham: Lilywhites eyeing 2023 move for Skriniar -Tottenham Hotspur News

Tottenham Hotspur are ‘seriously reflecting’ on a 2023 summer move for Inter Milan star defender Milan Skriniar, according to reports.

The Lowdown: Skriniar deal running out…

The Slovakia international star has a deal at Inter which expires in June 2023, meaning Spurs and any other interested party could snap up Skriniar as a free agent next summer.

It is believed that meetings between the player’s entourage and Inter will take place between September and October with the view of renewing his contract at the San Siro.

However, there is also a feeling that both Skriniar and the Nerazzurri are far apart in terms of agreeing on a salary with there still being some middle ground to find before an agreement is reached.

This could hand the Lilywhites a chance to bring Inter’s star defender to the Premier League on a Bosman next year, something Fabio Paratici and co are apparently contemplating.

The Latest: Spurs eye 2023 move…

According to FC Inter News, Tottenham, Chelsea and Paris-Saint Germain hold an interest with the two English sides weighing a 2023 swoop for the central defender.

Indeed, the north Londoners are apparently ‘seriously reflecting on an investment’ that would prove viable given Skriniar’s possible status as a free agent.

Of course, this will all depend on whether the 27-year-old does in fact renew his Inter deal.

The Verdict: Get it done…

If Skriniar doesn’t sign a new contract, this move is surely a no-brainer from Paratici’s perspective.

As per WhoScored, the defender finished 2021/22 as a mainstay in Inter’s side with only goalkeeper Samir Handanovic playing more minutes than Skriniar in Serie A.

As well as this, he completed a higher pass accuracy (92.9%) than any one of Simone Inzaghi’s regulars whilst averaging their second-highest rate of clearances per 90 (WhoScored).

These numbers back previous verdicts on Skriniar with pundits having called him ‘world class’ and a signing which makes ‘perfect sense‘ for Antonio Conte.
