Speaking to the press, via football.london, Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has confirmed that the Lilywhites will be without attacker Giovani Lo Celso for their clash against Man City this afternoon and his return is ‘not even close’.
Lo Celso has been out since the end of last year with a hamstring injury, sustained during a 2-0 win over Leicester City, and Mourinho has now offered an update on the Argentine as they prepare to take on the league leaders.
Tottenham without Lo Celso
When asked if his attacker would have any chance of featuring against Pep Guardiola’s side, the Lilywhites manager firmly explained that he is ‘not even close’ to returning for Spurs (football.london).
Confirming that Lo Celso will remain sidelined for the encounter, it appears Spurs will have to continue to cope without his creativity through the middle.
Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Tanguy Ndombele have arguably been heavily relied upon going forward this season, and Mourinho has offered no time frame as to when Lo Celso will make his Lilywhites comeback.
Transfer Tavern take
His continued absence remains a blow for Spurs, especially considering Mourinho’s belief that he can be an ‘amazing player’ when in peak physical condition (FourFourTwo).
In an upstroke of fortune, however, he also explained that Spurs have no ‘new injuries‘ for their clash against Man City – with Tottenham supporters potentially hoping they can pull off an upset at the Etihad.
Competing against the most in-form team in the league, Mourinho’s side will have to be at their very best.
