Speaking to GiveMeSport, journalist Pete O’Rourke has raved over Tottenham Hotspur wing-back Matt Doherty for his overall performances this season.
The Lowdown: Doherty shines over 2021/2022…
Following a regrettable 2020/2021 debut campaign under former manager Jose Mourinho, Doherty has since come on leaps and bounds under Conte.
In recent weeks, he has been a mainstay in the Spurs starting eleven, putting in notable performances against the likes of Leeds United, Everton and West Ham United (SofaScore).
He has attracted praise from the likes of Harry Kane and manager Antonio Conte for his recent renaissance and O’Rourke has now claimed it is ‘good news’ for Spurs supporters going forward into next season.
The Latest: O’Rourke makes Doherty claim…
Speaking to GMS, the reporter claims Doherty has ‘finally’ stepped up and supporters are seeing the kind of form which prompted Spurs to sign him from Wolves.
“Doherty has stepped up to the plate. He’s established himself now in Antonio Conte’s plans, and we’re now seeing the Matt Doherty from Wolves at Tottenham at last. And that can only be good news for Tottenham fans going forward.”
The Verdict: Crucial man?
The Republic of Ireland international may well be a crucial player in Tottenham’s final run of games as Conte’s side aim to keep chase in the fight for Champions League qualification.
Wing-backs are integral to Conte’s system and supporters will be hoping Doherty can replicate some of his previous performances this year in the latter stages.
Doherty managed a quite incredible 9.3 SofaScore match rating against Everton at the beginning of last month, perhaps best summing up his quality when the 30-year-old is on top form.
