Tottenham: Real Madrid warning sparks advanced Pedro Porro talks
Journalist Bruno Andrade has shared his own Tottenham transfer update as the club advance in talks to sign Sporting Lisbon wing-back Pedro Porro.
The Lowdown: Spurs in talks…
The Lilywhites have been in negotiations to sign the Porro over the last few days after completing a hijacked deal for Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma on a half-season long loan.
Spurs moved quickly for the latter player as manager Antonio Conte’s sees his attacking options strengthened, but Porro has been a transfer target for most of the January window.
The north Londoners are thought to be edging closer to a deal with reporter Bruno Andrade sharing what he’s heard.
The Latest: Tottenham talks advance after Real ‘fear’….
Andrade of UOL backs that Spurs are indeed in ‘advanced’ talks for the 23-year-old, stating yesterday evening:
“Pedro Porro: Sporting and Tottenham held two meetings in Lisbon today. Talks advanced, some points were well defined, but there was still no agreement. Negotiations continue.”
Going into further detail, however, the reporter also claims Real sparked a ‘fear’ in Spurs given they looked set to move for Porro in the summer window with the north Londoners ‘warned’ of their interest and pushed into taking action.
Andrade explained (via Twitter):
“Extra detail about Pedro Porro: Tottenham advanced in negotiations with Sporting – also – because it was warned that Real Madrid would be working to try to sign the player in June. British fear strong competition from Spaniards.”
The Verdict: Get it done…
The former Man City defender has been in fine form for Sporting under manager Ruben Amorim this season and we believe it is no surprise he has also attracted interest from Real.
As per WhoScored, he ranks in their top two for attempts at goal and key passes made per 90 domestically whilst also sitting in their top three best-performing player ranks overall.
Porro has been, without a doubt, one of Sporting’s star players and seems a perfect for Conte’s mould of a positive, attack-minded full-back.
There have been reservations over his physical condition from Spurs according to previous reports, yet his attacking outlay makes this move a real no-brainer from a Tottenham perspective.
He has already been called ‘special’ and a ‘creative‘ spark by members of the media and signs point towards Tottenham potentially landing a very capable defender on the right flank – not to mention a signing of real longevity.
