Tottenham Hotspur have been given a 48 hour deadline by Salernitana to make a decision about Pape Matar Sarr’s future, according to a report.

The Lowdown: Salernitana interested

Salernitana sporting director Morgan De Sanctis has already expressed his interest in Sarr, describing him as having the ‘characteristics’ that he wants in the midfield area.

While a deal is said to be difficult, De Sanctis also admitted that signing the midfielder is one of his goals in the January transfer window, but the Serie A club do not want the saga to drag on, and now want answers from Spurs in the near future.

The Latest: 48 hour deadline

According to a report from Sky Italia (via Sport Witness), Salernitana have handed Tottenham a 48 hour deadline to provide answers about whether they will sanction the transfer, and much of this time has now passed.

The chances of the Senegal international making the switch to Italy appear to be in jeopardy however, as he has recently came into the first team picture with Tottenham, appearing in their last three games.

The Verdict: Sarr must stay

While he has only been utilised as a bit-part player by Antonio Conte so far, there are signs that the 20-year-old is starting to find his rhythm in English football, and it would be unwise to sell him as soon as he starts developing.

Hailed as ‘talented’ by Zach Lowy, The Athletic’s Tim Spiers has recently claimed that the youngster is moving up the hierarchy at Tottenham after some impressive displays in the Premier League and FA Cup.

David Ginola

How much did Spurs pay to sign future legend and fan favourite David Ginola?

In the 4-0 win at Crystal Palace, the maestro won three duels and made two tackles in a 24 minute cameo, and in the FA Cup against Portsmouth he impressed even further, receiving a SofaScore rating of 7.7, the second-highest of any player on the pitch.

Sarr’s recent displays indicate that Conte should be looking to give him an extended run in the team, rather than selling him at the first opportunity.
