Tottenham: Tanguy Ndombele a major statement as medical draws closer

Tottenham’s long-awaited return to the transfer market appears to be edging ever closer and what a statement it could be.

As we all know, Spurs have endured a rather barren spell in the transfer market, last completing a signing all the way back in January 2018 with the confirmation of Lucas Moura.

Obviously, in recent weeks links with both Jack Clarke (per Sky Sports) and Tanguy Ndombele (the same outlet) have seen reporting of proposed and agreed deals, although nothing official has yet been confirmed but some good news for Spurs fans has emerged on that front.

Indeed, ESPN have reported the North London club have agreed a £55m deal for Tanguy Nombele, a fee that could eventually rise to around £65m. They state personal terms are yet to be completed but, promisingly, see no bumps ahead in that regard.

In what will come as promising news to the fans, they also report the deal is expected to be announced this week, with the Frenchman due to travel over for a medical before joining up for pre-season on July 8th.

Clearly, Tottenham have done exceptionally well without spending a penny, reaching the final of the Champions League in the most unlikely of circumstances against Ajax, as well maintaining a place in the Premier League’s top four amid the backdrop of stadium uncertainty. Still, Mauricio Pochettino has previously talked of the need for a new plan and surely Ndombele very much falls into that category.

The midfielder scored two and assisted seven in a hugely impressive campaign last season and, as per WhoScored, averaged 2 dribbles and 2.1 key passes per 90 minutes of action across all competitions last season. Described by talkSPORT pundit Darren Gough as the ‘real deal’ and hailed by French football expert Julien Laurens (via the BBC) as someone who ‘could become one of the best midfielders in the world’ in October, it does look to be a major market move.

If this one does get over the line as seemingly expected, Tottenham will have made a real statement.

Tottenham fans, what do you make of Tanguy Ndomebele? Is he the man to take you closer to a Premier League title? Or is more needed? Comment below
