Tottenham team news: Vertonghen set to return to give Pochettino huge boost

Tottenham Hotspur will meet Chelsea at Wembley Stadium in Saturday’s late kick-off as they look to continue their best start to a Premier League season.

Spurs have a tough run of fixtures ahead of them, with the match against the Blues the first of three huge games against Inter Milan and north London rivals Arsenal.

Mauricio Pochettino will want to see his side pick up a positive result against Maurizio Sarri’s unbeaten side, and he will have been handed a timely boost ahead of the game.

According to the club’s official website, Jan Vertonghen has returned to full first-team training and is available for the game against Chelsea.

The Belgian defender has been on the sidelines with a hamstring injury since the end of September, however, his return comes at a timely time.

Davinson Sanchez has been ruled out with a hamstring strain, whilst Spurs continue to have a number of players still in the treatment room.

Kieran Trippier, Mousa Dembele and Danny Rose all remain unavailable for the hosts.

The Verdict:

Vertonghen’s return will be a huge boost for Tottenham as they prepare for their clash with Chelsea on Saturday.

With Sanchez’s injury setback, the experienced enforcer will likely slot straight back into the side and partner compatriot Toby Alderweireld as Pochettino’s side look to get a positive result.

Should they manage to come away from the game with points, they will look to use that momentum, for what will be a tough week ahead.
