Tottenham Hotspur are confident of completing a deal for Beijing Guoan defender Kim Min-jae, according to an exclusive from 90min.
Spurs have been chasing his signature for several months but everything seems to be heading in the right direction. The 23-year-old has attracted attention from several leading European clubs and is widely expected to leave the Workers’ Stadium in the summer.
A source has told 90min that Beijing Guoan have already rejected two opening bids from Tottenham, as they are demanding somewhere in the region of £15m. Despite this rejection, Spurs feel a sense of optimism and believe that they will reach an agreement in the near future.
Talks are still ongoing but Tottenham are confident that a deal is close, amid interest from Liverpool and Manchester City.
The Lilywhites have leaked goals for fun all season long, conceding nearly 50 league goals so far this term. Jose Mourinho wants to solve these problems sooner rather than later, as Jan Vertonghen is seemingly set to leave, while questions remain over Juan Foyth’s future in north London.
The South Korean, who is affectionately known as ‘Monster‘, has already won 30 caps for his country, earning himself a gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games in the process, which granted him exemption from a select number of military duties (via The Guardian).
Standing at 1.9m tall, he cuts an imposing figure at the back, so it is understandable why Mourinho wants to sign him in the summer.
Mourinho wanted to sign Harry Maguire during his time in charge of Manchester United and, while he missed out on the Englishman, the South Korea international is cut from a similar cloth, as they share certain physical attributes.
Spurs seem to have stolen a march on their closest rivals and have moved one step closer to signing Kim, who should provide a timely boost to their defensive ranks.
