Taking to Twitter, sharing his latest piece for football.london, Tottenham Hotspur correspondent Alasdair Gold has dropped some 'good news' for supporters regarding Cristian Romero.

The Lowdown: Spurs in Romero talks...

Tottenham have been in talks to sign the Argentine for over a week, with Sky Sports first detailing a £34m (€40m) offer to Atalanta for his services.

The Serie A side remained stubborn over their asking price for Romero, however, despite the player himself 'pushing' for a move to north London (Fabrizio Romano).

Now, correspondent Gold has shared some 'good news' on the transfer saga in a timely boost amid the Harry Kane news.

The Latest: Spurs closing in on Romero...

As per the journalist, writing for football.london, Tottenham are now closing in on a deal to sign Romero with talks in the 'final stages'.

Indeed, Spurs are confident that a €50 million (£42.7m) move will be completed after extensive talks with Atalanta as they eye a third major summer signing.

Personal terms are already agreed and Romero himself is keen to join Spurs, with Gold sharing the article on his Twitter feed and writing:

"At least some good news this morning as the move for Cristian Romero is finally edging towards completion in what is going to cost Spurs around 50m euros."

The Verdict: Welcome update...

As the reports of Kane unrest grow stronger and stronger after he missed training today, this news on Tottenham's number one centre-back target comes as a welcome update.

Fabio Paratici is looking to oversee a major defensive overhaul before the transfer window deadline on August 31 and he could hardly start with a better capture than Romero.

Winning the Serie A MVP award for best defender in 2020/2021, he also averaged a mighty 3.1 interceptions per 90 over 29 league starts - far more than any Spurs player managed in the Premier League (WhoScored).

At 23-years-old and with plenty of years ahead at the top level, potentially snapping Romero up for £42.7m is a phenomenal bit of business.
