Speaking live to Sky Sports (via Football Daily), Sky Italy reporter Gianluca Di Marzio has dropped a claim on Tottenham Hotspur and Fabio Paratici’s transfer plans this summer.
The Lowdown: Tottenham eyeing new defenders…
Centre-back has long been the problem position for Spurs, with the Lilywhites said to be eyeing at least one new centre-back this summer, preferably two (football.london).
The likes of Joachim Andersen, Lewis Dunk and Nikola Milenkovic are just some of the names to have been linked, with Manchester City even said to have offered Aymeric Laporte in a possible Harry Kane swap deal (The Athletic).
Sky Italy reporter Di Marzio has now made a claim on Tottenham’s plans as he links a new name with the north Londoners.
The Latest: Di Marzio links new name…
According to the Italian journalist, Sevilla star and exciting France international Jules Kounde ‘could be the first target’ for Tottenham and new managing director Paratici as they look to strengthen this summer.
“They will do a very good transfer session,” explained Di Marzio on air to Sky Sports (via Football Daily).
“The priority will be a central defender and I think Kounde of Sevilla could be the first target.”
The Verdict: Big statement…
Valued at between €65m (£56m) and €70m (£60m) by his current club according to Mundo Deportivo, signing the 22-year-old would be a real statement of intent by Paratici and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.
Starting 33 La Liga games for Los Nervionenses over 2020/21, he averaged an impressive 90.1% pass accuracy out from the back, displaying a mature and composed head on young shoulders (WhoScored).
If Spurs could add him to their squad next season, Kounde would undoubtedly add some much-needed quality to the north Londoners’ rearguard.
