Speaking to GiveMeSport, journalist Dean Jones of Eurosport has now dropped a transfer claim as manager Antonio Conte eyes a new ‘priority’ at Tottenham.
The Lowdown: Spurs in Spence chase…
The Lilywhites have quite knowingly been after Championship starlet Djed Spence who is currently shining on loan at Nottingham Forest from Middlesbrough.
ESPN lifted the lid on multiple late January bids for the player, all of which were turned down, and it is reliably believed that Tottenham transfer chief Fabio Paratici will make another attempt in the summer.
Goal even claimed recently that Spurs are in pole position and have emerged as favourites for his signature.
However, according to Jones’ information, it appears Conte and Paratici now have a new top target in mind from the Riverside Stadium.
The Latest: Jones makes transfer claim…
The Eurosport journalist, speaking to GMS, claims that Tottenham are now eyeing Boro forward Isaiah Jones as a ‘priority’ over the long-time linked Spence.
“From what I’m told, Isaiah Jones has actually emerged as a player of higher priority for Tottenham in the next window.”
The Verdict: Right call?
Playing in all but two of Boro’s matches in the Championship this season, Jones has been an untouchable under Chris Wilder at just 22-years-old – leaving little wonder he has turned Conte’s head.
Wilder has already lavished praise on his ‘exciting’ starlet this season and the Englishman’s numbers certainly back up a high level of ability.
According to WhoScored, Jones ranks in Boro’s top-four best performers in the Championship this season, averaging a 6.94 rating per 90 and winning the joint-most Man of the Match awards.
