According to a report by Italian newspaper Tuttosport, via SempreInter.com, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy may have a golden opportunity to land Inter Milan colossus Milan Skriniar this summer in a swap deal with out-of-favour club record signing Tanguy Ndombele.
As per this report, the Nerazzurri are about to land promising star Sandro Tonali in midfield, and he could well be joined by Ndombele as Antonio Conte’s side continue to court the Spurs midfielder.
Inter are apparently so keen on signing Ndombele that they could even offer Skriniar in exchange to sweeten the deal, and the 6 ft 1 centre-back could be an ideal heir to Jan Vertonghen, who recently left Spurs and signed for Benfica.
Can Milan Skriniar replace Jan Vertonghen?
Yes, colossal defender, do the swap!
No, keep Ndombele
According to WhoScored, the Slovakian international averaged an impressive 92% passing accuracy out from the back during 2019/20, highlighting his traits as an adept ball-playing centre-half who can transition Spurs smoothly from defence to attack.
Valued at £43.2m by Transfermarkt, a swap with Ndombele could feasibly lower this price tag and offer Levy a chance to sign him for a cut-price fee plus player option. However, it is debatable whether the Tottenham head honcho would want to offload his club record acquisition just one season after investing an initial £53.8m to acquire his services.
Spurs are debatably in need of centre-half cover, though, with the club currently stacked for options in Ndombele’s midfield position.
Giovani Lo Celso, Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko, Ndombele and now Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg are just a few of the names that Jose Mourinho has at his disposal in midfield – and Levy could reinforce a weakened position with the composed Skriniar by offloading just one of them.
