Tottenham: Spurs target Trevoh Chalobah has potential exit blocked

Stamford Bridge, London, Britain - May 19, 2022, Chelsea's Trevoh Chalobah in action with Leicester City's Jamie Vardy.

Reported Tottenham Hotspur target Trevoh Chalobah will not be on the move this summer, according to a report from Gianluca di Marzio.

The lowdown: Spurs interested in Chalobah

Spurs have recently been heavily linked with a move for England youth international and had even reportedly tabled a loan offer for the Chelsea defender.

However, the 23-year-old remains in situ in west London and could well be staying put despite the seemingly imminent signing of Wesley Fofana.

A report emerging from Italy has claimed that Chelsea won’t allow their £20k-per-week academy graduate to leave, potentially ending Antonio Conte’s interest in one transfer target while also posing the possible double whammy of a current Spurs defender leaving the club…

The latest: Exit blocked

As per Gianluca di Marzio, Chelsea ‘no longer seem convinced’ by allowing Chalobah to be loaned out.

It’s claimed that the Englishman’s entourage have ‘already communicated’ to Inter Milan and AC Milan – who were both keen on the centre-back – that a move won’t be happening this summer.

The report also states that, in light of the Chalobah knock-back, AC Milan could ‘return’ to the Lilywhites and attempt to land Japhet Tanganga, having previously missed out on the man who was once dubbed a ‘monster’ by football talent scout Jacek Kulig.

The verdict: Decision to make

With any move for Chalobah now seemingly off the cards, Tottenham cannot afford to allow Tanganga to leave the club so close to the end of the transfer window.

As things stand, Conte has Ben Davies, Eric Dier, Cristian Romero, Davinson Sanchez, Clement Lenglet and Tanganga as fit and available central defensive options. A pool of six may appear plentiful at first glance, but less so when considering that the Italian routinely selects three starting centre-backs.

Spurs fans, do you remember who scored your first goal of the season against Man City?

All of the aforementioned options will almost certainly be called upon at various points of the season as Spurs face a condensed Premier League campaign, along with domestic cup and UEFA Champions League action.

Therefore, with the £18m-valued Chalobah now looking unattainable, Conte could well decide to stick with what he currently has at the back rather than chopping and changing in the final days of the transfer window.
