Tottenham: Spurs agree fee for Will Lankshear

Carrow Road, Norwich, Britain - May 22, 2022, Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte before the match.

Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement with Sheffield United to sign youngster Will Lankshear, according to Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas.

The lowdown: Rising star

Originally a product of the academy at north London rivals Arsenal, Lankshear made the switch to Sheffield United in February 2021.

The 17-year-old attacker had been prolific in the age group sides for the Championship outfit and had also attracted the attention of fellow Premier League side Brentford.

However, now it appears as though Spurs have won the battle to sign Lankshear for a big-money fee for a fledgeling teenager…

The latest: Spurs agree fee

While all of the attention in the Tottenham transfer department has seemingly been on Ruslan Malinovskyi, Fabio Paratici has quietly snapped up another clever deal.

As per Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas on Twitter, Tottenham have agreed on a £2million fee to bring teen sensation Lankshear to N17.

He stated: “Exclusive: #Tottenham have agreed a £2m deal with #SheffieldUnited to sign highly-rated young striker Will Lankshear. The 17 yo will join academy after they blew #Brentfordfc out of the water with a hugely-attractive offer. Released by #Arsenal last summer.”

Tottenham latest developments!

The verdict: Another masterstroke from Paratici?

After a quiet period following Spurs’ incredible start to the summer window, their transfer guru has gone into overdrive in the last few weeks, wrapping up deals for youngsters in the shape of Lankshear and Destiny Udogie alongside the pursuit of experienced star Malinovskyi.

Clearly already earmarked for the academy, it’s unlikely Lankshear will be making an impact on Antonio Conte’s first team anytime this season. Instead, the English teenager will be hoping to catch the eye of Yaya Toure and Dean Rastrick in the youth system with a view to possibly infiltrating the senior ranks next term.

Spurs fans, do you remember who scored your first goal of the season against Man City?

Overall, snapping up the most prodigious young talent, particularly players who have previously plied their trade across north London, can only be viewed as a positive for Tottenham moving forwards as the club looks to strengthen and challenge for top honours both in the short and long term.
