The Leeds United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are wondering whether or not they will ever see Premier League football again. Indeed, life has proven really rather difficult in recent months after watching Paul Heckingbottom fail to convince as manager and our resident Yorkshiremen are feeling down in the dumps.
With that in mind, the only thing to make our drinkers feel better has been the thought of an imminent transfer window. Though they often fraught with danger for Leeds after a number of poor signings over the years, there’s nothing quite like the idea of discussing potential targets to come in and change things up next season.
To that end, perhaps Leeds should consider a move for Aston Villa midfielder Henri Lansbury. The former Nottingham Forest man has struggled since his move to Villa Park in January 2017 after impressing for years at the City Ground and will surely be in line for an exit this summer, whether or not they’re promoted.
Despite his exile in the Midlands, Lansbury is clearly a quality player at this level. The 27-year-old proved for years with Forest than he can be a driving force in central midfield, carrying his side from box-to-box and chipping in with crucial goals when the going gets tough.
Those attributes are exactly the type that Leeds are missing right now and his arrival at Elland Road would be a real coup for the Whites. Valued at £2.25m by Transfermakrt, he’d surely relish the chance to get his career back on track at another big club after a terrible time with Aston Villa.
It’s a move that makes sense for all parties.
