The 27-year-old got his first league goal and grabbed an assist in a win against then-reigning Premier League champions Leicester City.

Matt Phillips made his first-team debut at Wycombe Wanderers a month after his seventeenth birthday, but he didn’t even sign a professional contract until the end of the season. He made massive contributions during his time at Adams Park as they secured promotion to League One, and he was gifted the young player of the year award.
However, he signed for then Premier League club Blackpool, where he enjoyed a very successful time of things as he just couldn’t stop scoring. But, he finally calmed down and ended up being shipped out on loan to Sheffield United due to a lack of first-team opportunities back in 2011.
After returning to Blackpool he turned the style on once again, which later went on to catch the attention of Queens Park Rangers. He managed to score 14 goals and provided 15 assists during his time at Loftus Road, before securing a move to West Bromwich Albion.
On the 6th of July 2016, Phillips joined then Premier League side West Bromwich Albion on a four-year deal. The 27-year-old impressed early on in the Midlands as he got his first league goal and grabbed an assist in a win against then reigning Premier League champions Leicester City.
He managed to score eight goals and provided 12 assists during his first couple of seasons at the Hawthorns, as one of the standout performers. Indeed, he has scored a number of wonder strikers during his time in the Midlands, with his pace, strength and finishing ability making him a pleasure to watch.
It comes as no surprise that some supporters were delighted to see him join back in the summer of 2016, as he has been influential in the current campaign and will continue to be one of their key promotion ingredients from here on in until the end of the season, having scored and assisted a handful of goals.
